Things haven’t gone as many had hoped for Michigan State football this season, and one potential reason for that is bad injury luck yet again.
Every team’s fanbase in college football at some point complains or uses injuries as an excuse for failures on the field. But for Michigan State, they may have a case here. Connor Earegood of The Detroit News posted on social media an interesting stat on Wednesday that stated Michigan State is among the top 10 “most injured” teams in the country.
Per data from Rotowire, Michigan State ranks as the No. 6 most injured team in the country. Among power four teams, the Spartans are third behind only Rutgers and Nebraska.
Check out the post from Earegood below that further explains how Rotowire has compiled these rankings and where the Spartans rank nationally:
Michigan State is in the midst of a four-game losing streak, with each of those losses coming by double-digits. With a record of 3-4 and Big Ten mark of 0-4, Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith has quickly found himself on the hot seat.
The Spartans’ struggles on the field certainly have been influenced by the mounting number of key injuries. But, they also aren’t the only reason for why Michigan State has fallen off over the last few weeks.
Michigan State will look to get its season back on track this week against rival Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on NBC.
