Well, it was quite obvious that it was the opening night of the regular season, as the Spartans had to shake off a ton of rust on their path to beating Colgate. In the end, though, Michigan State defeated the Raiders, 80-69.
A first half saw this game stay about as close as it could. The Spartans attempted to pull away several times, but Colgate continued to be a pest, especially with their three-point shooting. The two teams went into the halftime break with MSU leading, 37-34.
In the second half, the Spartans ballooned their lead up to 15, 62-47, and never looked back, cruising their way to a double digit victory.
A pair of Spartans finished with double-doubles in the game, with Jeremy Fears finishing at 14 points and 10 assists, while Jaxon Kohler added 16 points and 15 rebounds. Coen Carr (12 points) and Carson Cooper (10 points) also finished in double digit scoring.
The waters get tougher later this week when the Spartans welcome in the Arkansas Razorbacks to the Breslin Center on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
