The final push towards the spring sports postseason has officially begun.
Tuesday, May 27 marks the first day of districts for baseball and softball teams across the state and, as the final month of the regular season has arrived, the top contenders in each division have begun to separate themselves from the pack.
The latest Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association (MHSSCA) poll was released on Tuesday, May 6, with not much movement across the rankings lists. Most notably, Clare jumped Evart as the top-ranked team in Division 3. The Pioneers are 13-1 so far this season, their only loss coming to the newest addition to the Division 2 rankings, Petoskey (No. 10). Saline jumped Hudsonville for the No. 2 spot in the Division 1 rankings, while the top-ranked teams in D1 (Mercy), D2 (Gaylord) and D4 (Unionville-Sebewaing) remained the same.
