Michigan football's DL coach leaves for NFL's Baltimore Ravens

The Michigan football coaching carousel appeared to be complete with the hiring of Kyle Whittingham, who brought a number of new coaches from Utah and BYU (and elsewhere) and retained two: running backs coach Tony Alford and defensive line coach Lou Esposito.

Everything appeared to be set ahead of spring ball, which will begin on March 17. However, the NFL coaching carousel continues to turn, and the latest movement affects the maize and blue.

Newly hired to oversee the Baltimore Ravens, former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has decided to pilfer his former employer. He hired Esposito to oversee the Ravens defensive line, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Minter and Esposito did not have overlapping tenures in Ann Arbor, but it speaks to Esposito’s ability that he’s moving on to the NFL.

It would not be a surprise to see Whittingham give defensive end coach Lewis Powell responsibility over the whole line as a result. He was expected to handle the edge position while Esposito oversaw the tackles.
