Meijer sets opening date for new Livonia grocery store

Grocery and retailer Meijer announced on Tuesday, June 30, that Aug. 19 is the opening date for its new Livonia store.

A Meijer Grocery store at 33500 Seven Mile Road at Farmington Road in Livonia marks the 129th Michigan store for the Grand Rapids-based, privately held, family-owned Meijer.

“We’re excited to open our second Meijer Grocery location in southeast Michigan this year, continuing to bring this convenient format to more communities to help customers quickly find fresh foods and everyday essentials at consistently low prices,” said Maureen Mitchell, vice president of the East Michigan Region for Meijer, in a news release. “These stores are designed to provide value and convenience to customers, right in the communities where they live and work each day.”

Known for its supercenters and small-format neighborhood markets, the 75,000-square-foot Livonia store is a larger version of the grocer’s smaller-format concept stores, called Meijer Grocery. The stores aim to be convenient with a streamlined shopping experience. At approximately 75,000 to 90,000 square feet, the chains’ Meijer Grocery stores are about half the size of Meijer supercenter stores, which are approximately 159,000 square feet.

Meijer Grocery stores are full grocery stores, offering fresh produce and groceries, plus bakery, meat, seafood and deli departments. Shoppers will also find that the Livonia Meijer Grocery will have a full-service pharmacy, plus health and beauty, a floral area, greeting cards and pet supplies.

Like its other stores, shoppers can use mPerks, its shop & scan option, and the store will have home delivery and pickup.

The Livonia store is the fourth of its type in metro Detroit. In 2023, Meijer launched its new, smaller-format grocery store concept, opening locations in Lake Orion and Macomb Township. More recently, in May 2026, a Meijer Grocery opened in Rochester Hills.

Ahead of the Livonia store opening, Meijer says hourly, part-time and full-time jobs are available. Those interested can apply online at jobs.meijer.com/stores.

A new Meijer supercenter is being built in Plymouth Township and is expected to open later this year.

Across the Midwest, Meijer operates more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets and express locations.
