If a player wasn’t one of the best in Michigan, he wasn’t making the all-Livingston County boys lacrosse first team.
All 11 players on the first team received some sort of all-state recognition. Three were first-teamers, including two All-Americans. There were four second-teamers, three third-teamers and one honorable mention selection.
As with hockey and wrestling, it requires a higher level of talent than in most sports to make the all-county first team.
Owen Brozo
► School: Brighton
► Class: Junior
► Position: Short-stick defensive midfielder
► Accomplishments: Brozo made third-team all-state and was selected as Brighton’s Most Improved Player. He had 39 ground balls and caused four turnovers as one of the Bulldogs’ top defensive players.
Coen Chwalek
► School: Hartland
► Class: Junior
► Position: Attack
► Accomplishments: Chwalek made second-team all-state and academic all-state. He was Hartland’s second-leading goal scorer with 58, dishing out 21 assists.
Jaxon DeLaBarre
► School: Hartland
► Class: Junior
► Position: Defense
► Accomplishments: DeLaBarre was a third-team all-state selection and an academic all-stater. He picked up 53 ground balls and caused 29 turnovers, scoring three goals and four assists.
Connor Gilbert
► School: Hartland
► Class: Senior
► Position: Midfielder
► Accomplishments: Gilbert was a second-team all-stater who led Hartland in scoring with 66 goals and 38 assists. He got hot late in the season, scoring 40 goals and 19 assists in his last nine games.
Kellan Hull
► School: Hartland
► Class: Senior
► Position: FOGO
► Accomplishments: Hull was one of the state’s best faceoff specialists the last two seasons, making first-team all-state as a junior and the second team this season. He won 73.5% of his faceoffs this season, collecting 15 goals and four assists.
Maddox Marlatt
► School: Brighton
► Class: Sophomore
► Position: Attack
► Accomplishments: Marlatt received all-state honorable mention after finishing as Brighton’s second-leading scorer with 48 goals and 46 assists. He scored the winning goal in overtime against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Rocco Parisi
► School: Brighton
► Class: Sophomore
► Position: Long-stick midfielder
► Accomplishments: Parisi was a third-team all-state selection after causing 42 turnovers and picking up 55 ground balls. He had two goals and six assists. Coach Jim Carl said Parisi is already one of the best long-stick midfielders to come out of Brighton.
Clayton Penzien
► School: Hartland
► Class: Senior
► Position: Midfielder
► Accomplishments: Penzien made first-team all-state this season after making the second team last year. He scored 42 goals and a team-high 40 assists this season. Penzien had 113 goals and 89 assists in three seasons.
Brody Shannon
► School: Brighton
► Class: Junior
► Position: Defense
► Accomplishments: Shannon is a potential Division I college player after making third-team all-state as a sophomore and the second team as a junior. He had 47 caused turnovers and 51 ground balls.
Joey Skoczylas
► School: Brighton
► Class: Junior
► Position: Attack
► Accomplishments: Skoczylas was the leading scorer in the county with 89 goals and 22 assists. His goal total ranks third in school history behind John Aurandt’s 102 in 2021 and 92 in 2022. Skoczylas made All-America and first-team all-state.
Nate Anderer
► School: Hartland
► Class: Junior
► Position: Goalie
► Accomplishments: Anderer was a first-team all-state selection who also made academic all-state. He’s been Hartland’s starting goalie for three years, backstopping the Eagles to the state final as a freshman. He stopped 63.6% of the shots he faced this season, helping Hartland hold opponents to five goals or less 13 times in 22 games.
