MDOT: Work on M-119 slope stabilization to start June 23

The Michigan Department of Transportation is set to begin a $300,000 project to stabilize the slope beneath a washed-out section of M-119 on Tuesday, June 23.

According to MDOT, the section is near West Stutsmanville Road between Harbor Springs and Good Hart. The road failed due to severe flooding conditions in April.

During the project, M-119 will remain closed to through-traffic between West Stutsmanville Road and Terpening Road. Homes and businesses in the affected area will maintain access. Through-traffic will be detoured on Terpening Road and West Stutsmanville Road.

The project includes installing a retaining wall beneath M-119 and installing new guardrail.

Another section of M-119 near Division Road south of Cross Village that also washed out in April will remain closed with traffic detoured on Island View Road and North State Road. MDOT officials said there is no timeline for repairs for this section at this time and the road is expected to remain closed until summer 2027.
