MDOT finishes chip sealing project on M-119 ahead of schedule

The Michigan Department of Transportation has completed a chip sealing project on 20 miles of M-119 ahead of schedule.

According to MDOT, the work was finished five weeks early and associated detours have been lifted. The $1.1 million project resurfaced M-119 from Ann Street in Harbor Springs to North State Road/Chippewa Drive in Cross Village.

The project first began on May 11 and was expected to be completed by July 24. Remaining work, including pavement markings, will be done without detours in place.

Sections of M-119 damaged by spring flooding in April remain closed to traffic.

“We understand that with the flooding damage on M-119, this work to keep the roadway in good condition was an additional inconvenience for residents and visitors,” said MDOT Gaylord Transportation Service Center Construction Engineer Brad Swanson in the MDOT release. “Our contractors worked long hours to get this work done as quickly as possible as early in the summer tourism season as they could, and we appreciate everyone’s patience.”
