The victim was identified as Nicholos Hatcher, a 34-year-old Detroit resident.

Police were originally dispatched around 4:32 p.m., May 28, to the area of Middlebelt Road and Orangelawn Street after receiving a report of a man lying on the side of the road.

Officers and paramedics found Hatcher with an apparent stab wound to the upper chest. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to police, Hatcher and two suspects had been at the BioLife Plasma Services center on Plymouth Road before the stabbing when one of the suspects allegedly stole Hatcher’s backpack.

Police said Hatcher followed the suspects and confronted them, leading to a physical altercation.

Hatcher was stabbed once in the upper chest, police said. The suspects then fled into a neighboring community.

Police identified, located and arrested the person believed responsible for the stabbing. A second person present during the incident was also identified and arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for a determination of charges.

Police have not released the identities of the two suspects.
