Halloween is quickly approaching, and several Monroe County communities have approved their official trick-or-treat times:
Halloween safety tips
Halloween safety tips are offered by Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, director Todd Tolstedt of the Monroe Public Safety Department and Andrew Shaw, Monroe Public Schools’ superintendent.
• Travel in groups.
• Parents should always accompany younger children.
• Wear a glow stick or carry a flashlight to stay visible to drivers.
• Cross the street only at street corners, never between parked cars and never diagonally across an intersection.
• Visit familiar, well-lit neighborhoods and homes.
• Never enter a stranger’s house.
• Wait to eat candy until you can inspect it at home.
• Discard any treats that have open or torn packages.
• Be aware that some drugs are manufactured to resemble candy; stick to factory-wrapped and familiar brands. If in doubt, throw it out.
