It’s late July, and that means it’s time to mark your calendars to enjoy some fresh seafood. Corktown’s beloved Mudgie’s Deli and Wine Shop announced its annual lobster roll promotion is returning.
Its popular sandwich special starts July 29 and runs through Aug. 2.
Mudgie’s has flown in fresh lobster for years from its source in Saco, Maine. The fresh Maine lobster rolls feature knuckle and claw meat that is shipped in and never frozen. At Mudgie’s, lobster is dressed with mayonnaise, celery, onion, herbs and lemon. It’s served on a buttered, toasted roll from metro Detroit’s Crispelli’s.
Here’s what is offered:
When its lobster roll promotion starts at 11 a.m. July 29, there will be 200 rolls available until 3 p.m. On July 30-Aug. 1, 200 lobster rolls will be available each day starting at 11 a.m., and 200 rolls more will be available on those days after 4 p.m. Mudgie’s kitchen closes at 9 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 2, there will be 200 lobster rolls available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Also on Aug. 1, Mudgie’s garden patio and tiki bar features its “Sun Factor Party” from 6-10 p.m. with DJs Craig Gonzalez, Andy Toth and Rob Barrett.
Lobster roll week was started by the late owner, Greg Mudge. The special dates to Mudgie’s fifth-anniversary promotion, when the deli featured a different sandwich each week from every state. When it came time for Maine, Mudge went with the lobster roll, according to Free Press reports.
The lobster rolls were a huge hit. In the past, lines have formed out the door. In 2020, instead of lobster week, the deli turned its special into a lobster roll month.
Mudgie’s lobster rolls are available for carryout or dine-in and on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no reservations. This annual special often sells out. If Mudgie’s does sell out of the lobster rolls, they said they’ll post a notice on social media.
