Livonia Franklin wants to get the old gang back together.
The first team to win a Class A state championship in football in Michigan High School Athletic Association history was the 1975 Patriots, who beat Traverse City 21-7 in front of over 5,500 fans at Western Michigan University.
The Patriots are hosting a 50th anniversary reunion for the team during their Sept. 26 game against Belleville.
The pre-game festivities begin at 5 p.m. and last until the game kicks off at 7 p.m. The party continues afterward at Detroit Marriott Livonia, 17100 N Laurel Park Dr.
“We would like football players, cheerleaders and band members to attend this event,” said Rick Kruger, a lineman on the championship team.
The 1975 team was inducted into the Franklin Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural class in 2023. Also inducted at the time were coach Armand Vigna, who led the team to two league titles and 89 wins over 18 years, and 1976 graduate Tim Hollandsworth, who was an all-state linebacker and captain.
Franklin’s second Hall of Fame class included Jim Casey, another 1976 graduate and captain, in 2024.
