PWHL Detroit drew a favorable position for Wednesday’s draft at the Fox Theatre.
The PWHL announced the draft order on Monday and Detroit will have the third pick in rounds 1-6.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes earned the first overall pick after finishing first in the PWHL’s ‘Gold Plan’ standings during the regular season.
The second selection goes to the Seattle Torrent, who finished in last place in the regular-season standings.
The league’s four expansion teams occupy the next four selections, as determined by a randomized draw in the presence of all general managers
Detroit’s other draft picks will be No. 15 (second round), No. 27 (third round), No. 39 (fourth round), No. 51 (fifth round) and No. 63 (sixth round).
Detroit also reached the 10-player roster limit after Phase 4 of the PWHL’s Expansion Player Distribution Process.
On Monday, they signed forward Ella Huber, who had eight points in her rookie season with the Boston Fleet.
The 24-year-old from Northfield, Illinois, was selected by the Fleet with the 10th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 PWHL Draft following four seasons at the University of Minnesota.
With the Golden Gophers, Huber had 140 points in 157 games, including a career-high 48 points (15G, 33A) in 42 games as a captain during her senior year.
On the international stage, Huber earned a gold medal at the 2020 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship.
On Sunday, Detroit signed defenseman Nina Jobst-Smith, who was selected by Vancouver in the third round in the 2025 PWHL Draft.
She started her rookie season on long-term injured reserve, debuting on Jan. 9 against Ottawa, and finished the year with three assists in 20 games.
The 24-year-old from North Vancouver, British Columbia, played collegiately at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she served as captain in 2024-25 with 18 points (3G, 15A) in 37 games.
Internationally, Jobst-Smith represented Germany in her Olympic debut in Milan, scoring the very first goal of the tournament and finishing with three points (2G, 1A) in five games.
She is also a veteran of five IIHF Women’s World Championships, having twice been named one of her team’s top three players.
