Lions make some changes to the practice squad roster after Week 1

The Lions did not hold practice on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop Detroit from making some roster moves.

As was previously reported, the Lions have signed offensive tackle Devin Cochran. The former Bengal has been added to the Lions’ practice squad. Detroit also added linebacker Monty Rice to the 16-man practice squad.

To make room for the new additions, the Lions released veteran LB Anthony Pittman from the practice squad. Pittman had been a practice squad elevation for Sunday’s Week 1 loss in Green Bay and was set to revert to the practice squad, but the Lions released him instead. He played exclusively on special teams, which has been Pittman’s customary role over the last few seasons in Detroit. The team previously released Pittman at the roster cutdown deadline.

Rice joins the Lions as a practice squad journeyman. A third-round pick out of Georgia by the Titans in 2021, Rice is now on his fourth NFL squad in the last 18 months. He was most recently with the New England Patriots over the summer.
