BATTLE CREEK — The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Bronson Battle Creek/Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Anya Foljahn of the Lakeview girls team.
Fans got behind Foljahn to help her edge finalists Rykert Bloch, Mehki Burton, Lilamae Frank, Gianna Burgos and Breanna VanDusser. Foljahn received 66 percent of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she is being featured in this Enquirer Athlete of the Week Sunday spotlight.
Lakeview’s Anya Foljahn earned the title of top girls tennis player in the city as she finished first at No. 1 singles at the annual All-City Girls Tennis Tournament. Foljahn won her flight, outlasting the field, including Harper Creek’s Jade Phillips, Pennfield’s Leah Tenney and Battle Creek Central’s Ava Einhardt.
“Anya has made a huge jump this year going from No. 2 doubles last year to No. 1 singles this year. She has faced a high level of competition and had truly gotten better each week. One of her biggest goals was to win the All-City and for her to go out and accomplish that is a testament to her work ethic and improved skill,” Lakeview girls tennis coach Stuart Smith said.
