A 45-year-old Kent County man turned his $20 ticket into a $2 million payday after a trip to the gas station, according to Michigan Lottery.
“Every once in a while, I’ll buy a $2 ticket, but I typically don’t play the $20 games,” said the man, who chose to remain anonymous. “I stopped to get gas, so I grabbed a $2 Blackjack ticket while I was cashing out and scratched it while my gas was pumping.
“I won $20, so I went back inside to cash it. I debated using my winnings on two $10 tickets, but the $2 million Bonus Scratch Multiplier ticket caught my eye, so that’s what I went with. I scratched the ticket when I got in my car and went into shock when I saw how much I’d won. I don’t think it’s going to fully hit me that I won $2 million until I cash the check!”
He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum of about $1.3 million rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
The man cashed his winning ticket at Clyde Park Fuel, 2354 Clyde Park Ave. in Grand Rapids.
He plans to buy a house, take a vacation and save the remainder.
The Lottery said players have won more than $21 million playing $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier since first launching in February.
In 2025, Lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.
