JONESVILLE — The Jonesville varsity boys cross country team is already putting trophies in the cupboard after two early invitational wins in back-to-back events.
On Saturday, the Comets varsity cross country teams competed at the Webberville Happy Acres Invitational. The girls cross country team placed fifth out of 11 teams. Leading the way was Brynleigh Griffiths, placing 17th, and medaling with the time of 22:19. Also medaling was Keira Knight — 24th with a time of 23:08. Completing the scoring for the team was Joleane Gulledge in 28th (24:06), Mia Langhann in 34th (25:00) and Kendahl Drake in 36th (25:26).

Ashton Potwin and Collin Fucile worked together the whole race, finishing seventh (17:08) and eighth (17:13), respectively. Jacob Gray was 17th (18:54), and freshman Briggs Baker was 30th (20:08).
The varsity boys Comets did it again on Wednesday, this time at the Concord Invitational — 13 other schools did their best to take down Jonesville.
The girls team placed third, behind two regional-ranked schools — Leslie and Concord.
Brynleigh Griffiths led the Comets with ninth place finish (22:58). Joleane Gulledge placed 11th (23:20), Keira Knight 17th (24:11), Kendahl Drake 24th (25:03), and Mia Langhann 28th (25:49) — all medaled to complete the scoring.
The Comet boys won their second invitational holding off a tough Leslie team.
Caleb Blonde was the winner of the meet, turning in a time of 16:59- more than 30 seconds ahead of second place. Teammates Collin Fucile and Ashton Potwin tagged along for a 3-4 finish — running 17:41 and 17:57, respectively. Jacob Gray placed 13th (19:06), and Briggs Baker was 21st (20:00). All five medaled to complete the scoring for the Comets.
The Comets look like they are firing on cylinders out on the race course to start 2025. The next potential trophy opportunity will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Harper Creek Invitational.
