A road-rage incident this past weekend in Jackson County left one man dead and another hospitalized after a third, uninvolved passerby struck both men while they were fighting in the middle of M-60 in Concord Township, the Michigan State Police said.
Jackson MSP troopers were dispatched at about 6:07 p.m. Nov. 28 to the intersection of M-60 and North Main Street in Concord for a reported single vehicle/pedestrian crash.
Police said a westbound Ram 1500 pickup, driven by a 62-year-old Hanover, man struck a 22-year-old Concord man and a 24-year-old Parma man.
Both men were transported to Henry Ford Hospital, where the 22-year-old was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash. The Parma man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ram truck was not injured, police said.
According to police, the two younger men were involved in a road-rage incident. The drivers of the vehicles — a Chevy Malibu operated by the Concord man, and a Jeep Cherokee operated by the Parma man — pulled onto the shoulder of the road.
Once parked, they got out of their vehicles and began fighting in the road, where the Hanover man struck both of them.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors for any of the drivers involved, police said.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time,” police said.
The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Concord Fire Department, Spring Arbor Fire Department, and Jackson Community Ambulance.
