Ionia man suffers serious injuries in early Sunday crash. What we know

An Ionia man suffered serious injuries early Sunday, April 19, on Grand River Avenue in Ionia County’s Orange Township when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a Portland man.

The Ionia man, 27, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said in a release and was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office did not say whether the 25-year-old man from Portland suffered any injuries.

Ionia County deputies were dispatched to East Grand River Avenue near Sunfield Highway, west of Portland after a two-vehicle crash.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Ionia man was driving a Ford Fusion and crossed over the centerline, striking the Portland man’s Toyota 4Runner. Both vehicles were disabled in the crash, police said.

The Berlin-Orange Fire Department, Michigan State Police Lakeview Post, Life EMS, Portland Ambulance Service, Reed & Hoppes Towing, and Ionia County Central Dispatch assisted with the crash.
