The Detroit Tigers have a chance to show a national audience tonight that they are for real, with or without Tarik Skubal.
The Tigers will play the San Francisco Giants at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, in a game on Fox (and not on Detroit Sports Net, as usual) as they try to salvage a chance at a series victory over a struggling Giants squad.
It’s been an adventurous West Coast trip for the Tigers that started when the calendar still said July with a series against the Athletics in West Sacramento.

The trip has had just about everything: big trades, a lot of runs, a lot of games and yes, a lot of wins.
The Tigers enter Saturday’s game with a 5-2 record on the trip, which has included five games with eight or more runs, three of which were double-digit outings.
But the Tigers, after trading Skubal and former All-Star Casey Mize at the trade deadline largely because of the hole the team dug itself with a wretched May record, don’t have much if any room for error.
If they want to keep pushing for a playoff spot despite selling at the deadline (they enter Saturday just two games back for the final wild-card spot), they need to keep winning series, especially against inferior opponents.
The Tigers have the second best record in the American League since June 1, behind only the scorching Boston Red Sox, while the Giants are just 26-31 in that same period.
There is one more game Sunday afternoon, but the Tigers need to win Saturday to maintain hope of a series victory.

Is Jackson Jobe pitching tonight?
Yes.
Jackson Jobe is making his season debut with the Tigers after getting activated off the 60-day injured list. He missed most of the 2025 season and all of the 2026 season up to this point recovering from Tommy John surgery.
He made five rehab starts in the minor leagues and impressed, posting a 1.76 ERA over 15 1/3 innings, striking out 17 hitters and walking only four.
