A Holland engineer missed his chance to become Michigan’s next “Jeopardy!” champion on Friday, May 22.
Jeff Weyhmiller, in his only “Jeopardy!” appearance, lost to returning champion Chris D’Angelo, a content manager from Washington, D.C., who became a three-day champion, on the May 22 “Jeopardy!” episode.
Missing the Final Jeopardy! prompt, Weyhmiller finished in second place with $2,700, far behind D’Angelo’s $25,000. Mary Morris, a law school administrator from Indianapolis, finished in third place with just $401.
In recent months, the longtime game show has featured a 31-game winner from Michigan in Jamie Ding, as well as several other Michigan natives.

No, Holland native Jeff Weyhmiller lost on the Friday, May 22 “Jeopardy!” episode, his only appearance on the game show.
Heading into Final Jeopardy, Weyhmiller was in second place at $3,200, though far behind returning champion D’Angelo’s $20,400, while Morris was in third place at $1,800.
Weyhmiller missed the correct response on Final Jeopardy!, answering “What is Morality Play?” to the prompt “17th century critic Thomas Rymer coined this 2-word term, instructing that a work should uphold moral principles & see vice punished.”
Only D’Angelo answered correctly, “What is Poetic Justice?,” gaining $4,600 to end at $25,000, becoming a three-day champion.
Weyhmiller was locked into second place, losing $500 to finish at $2,700. Morris also answered Final Jeopardy! incorrectly, losing $1,399 to finish in third place at $401.
Who is Jeff Weyhmiller?
Jeff Weyhmiller is a nuclear power instructor for WECTEC, a Westinghouse Electric subsidiary, according to his LinkedIn profile and Jeopardy.com.
His LinkedIn notes he is “currently dedicated to restarting the Palisades Nuclear Plant in the roles of operations instructor and mechanical design engineer.”
Weyhmiller previously worked at Palisades as a senior reactor operator, engineer and instructor before becoming a licensed operations instructor.
His biography also notes he was a member of the Central Michigan University marching, pep and symphony bands before transferring to Michigan Technological University where he again was a band member while studying engineering.
