Holland businesses, agencies provide aid during advanced commercial fire

Numerous local fire agencies responded to an advanced commercial structure fire at ATC Drivetrain in Holland on July 9.

The Holland Fire Department responded first to 926 Waverly Road around 1 p.m. A full commercial fire response was initiated, officials said, due to the size and complexity of the structure.

Crews removed multiple enflamed lithium-ion batteries and eventually brought the fire under control, though crews remained on-scene into the evening to conduct overhaul and monitor the site.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion on-scene and released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with damage estimates pending.

In a release, HFD thanked Ottawa County Central Dispatch, the Holland Board of Public Works and Tiara Yachts for hi-lo use, in addition to MAX Transit and local businesses that provided food and beverages for firefighters: Applebee’s, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and resource organizer Ottawa County Canteen.

HFD was assisted by the Holland Township Fire Department, Graafschap Fire Department, Park Township Fire Department, Zeeland Fire Department, Hamilton Fire Department, Olive Township Fire Department, Port Sheldon Township Fire Department, Blendon Township Fire Department, Georgetown Fire Department, Jamestown Fire Department and the Ottawa County Hazardous Materials Team.

Medical response was on standby and the Holland Police Department assisted with traffic control. The Allegan County Marine Division provided an air boat for ventilation.
