High school sports boys top performers of the school year

Another high school season is in the books. There have been several elite performances in high school sports.

But who was the top performer of the 2025-26 school year?

The finalists are each sport’s player of the year plus a handful of multi-sport athletes who made an impact in several places.

Brandon Holman, Zeeland West

The Dux junior was an all-state running back and a state qualifier in track and field.

Mason Myers, Zeeland West

The football Defensive Player of the Year was a dominant force on both sides of the ball, earning all-state.

Jayden Chico, West Ottawa

The all-state soccer player led a rejuvenation of the Panthers soccer program.

Trevyn Bethke, West Ottawa

After a year of having to serve underhand and winning the No. 2 singles regional title, this Panther moved up to No. 1 singles and dominated even more, winning conference and regional titles.

Jonas Ballard, Black River

The River Rat was a distance threat in cross country and track and field, earning Cross Country Runner of the Year honors.

Andrew Pyle, Zeeland

The water polo player of the year was also a strong swimmer for Zeeland.

Titus Spencer, Holland Christian

The Maroons senior was the Boys Basketball Player of the Year and led Holland Christian to the regional finals.

Darien Stewart, West Ottawa

The basketball defensive player of the year led a district title youth movement by the Panthers.

Jake Shoemaker, Holland Christian

The top swimmer in the area earned multiple all-state honors to lead the Maroons to second place in the state.

Charlie DeHaan, Holland Christian

The Maroons junior won the Division 3 state championship in diving.

Isaac Kamara, West Ottawa

This Panther won the first state diving title for the West Ottawa boys.

Bryce Morrison, Hamilton

The Hawkeye was state champion in wrestling after finishing a dominating career where he moved past 150 career wins. He was 53-0 as a senior, just the second perfect season of this century.

Krue Anderson, West Ottawa

For the second year in a row, Anderson was named the hockey player of the year.

Madden Nowak, Zeeland

Nowak was the top boys bowler in the area.

Hudsen Hulst, Hamilton

The track and field athlete of the year, Hulst finished third in the state in the hurdles. He also had a strong season as quarterback and defensive back in football as well as basketball.

Ethan Campbell, Zeeland East

The Chix lefty was the baseball player of the year after notching an ERA of just 1.03 on the season.

Niko Moungkhoun, Zeeland West

The boys lacrosse player of the year was also a standout on the football field for the Dux.

Will Nagelvoort, West Ottawa

For the second year in a row this Panther was golfer of the year. He also was a strong hockey player.

Alex Carrier, West Ottawa

The rugby player of the year led the Panthers to the state semifinals.

Ja’Hari Grant, Fennville

The all-state middle hitter led the Blackhawks to a top-10 ranking in the first MHSAA season of boys volleyball.

Andrew Legg, Holland

The Dutch senior was a standout in soccer, basketball and golf, leading Holland to the golf state tournament for the first time since 2003.

Aiden Segovia, Holland

The Dutch grappler set the Holland school record for career wins at 171 after earning a trip to the state finals for the fourth time.

Christian Getz, Calvary

Finished eighth at the Division 4 state cross country finals to lead the Crusaders to their first state title in any sport. He was also a state qualifier in track and field.

Jamison Huizenga, Black River

The senior guard was the first River Rat to earn all-state basketball honors, earning second-team.
