Here are the top 10 longest-lasting trucks, according to one study

The Ram 3500 heavy duty is the longest-lasting pickup followed by the Toyota Tundra, according to an iSeeCars analysis that compared how likely a vehicle is to reach 250,000 miles.

Excluding heavy duty vehicles, the Tundra also ranked first among passenger models for longevity.

“Heavy duties always have longer life because they’re used as industrial vehicles more often and they’re driven harder,” iSeeCars analyst Karl Brauer said.

He said the Tundra “shines that much brighter” when considering the full-size truck’s high performance compared to all passenger vehicles as well as heavy hitters such as the Ram 3500.

Other top performers included the Ford F-450 Super Duty and heavy duty versions of the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado.

The ranking is one way to evaluate the longevity of a vehicle, but Brauer said there are other ways to interpret data that might rank one vehicle or another higher

“You can make the data say whatever you want, depending on how you want to slice it,” he said.

Brauer recommended considering the cost of ownership, including gas mileage and insurance, for buyers in search of long-term trucks. He also said the number of recalls on a make or model can be an indication of the quality and longevity of a vehicle.

Recalls “are at least somewhat of a snapshot of how well the car was originally engineered and built,” Brauer said.
