Both Kensington Lakes Activities Association lacrosse championships remain in Livingston County.
For the ninth straight season, the county has produced both the boys and girls champions.
Hartland’s boys won their eighth KLAA title in the last nine years with a 17-3 rout of Plymouth, while Brighton’s girls captured their sixth championship in nine years with an 18-4 blowout of Plymouth on Monday, May 11.
The last time a team from outside the county won the KLAA was in 2016 when Northville’s boys and girls swept the championships.
Connor Gilbert maintained his hot streak for Hartland, scoring five goals and one assist. He has 21 goals and six assists in his last four games.
Drew Schaecher had four goals and one assist, Coen Chwalek two goals and three assists, Clayton Penzien two goals and one assist, and Trevor Phillips two goals for the Eagles.
In the girls championship game, Kelly McKaig and Maggie Burchfield each had four goals, Mia Balogh had three and Sophie Dockham two for Brighton.
Boys lacrosse
Brighton 17, Livonia 8
Joey Skoczylas had five goals and Maddox Marlatt had two goals and seven assists for Brighton (13-3).
Canton 8, Howell 7
Tobias Midlam had three goals and three assists, Steve Kozlowski had two goals, and Kody Stubleski had a goal and one assist for Howell.
Boys golf
North Star Bank Invitational
Hartland shot 304 to beat Brighton by one stroke in a 23-team tournament at Plum Hollow Country Club. Howell was sixth with a 317.
Brighton sophomore Dom D’Agosta shot 2-under-par 70 to take medalist honors. Liam Kastamo shot 74 to tie for fourth and Wyatt Johnson shot 75 to finish sixth for Hartland. Jase Sensor shot 77 and Grant Sturos 78 for the Eagles.
Rounding out Brighton’s score were Tim Peterson and Will Hanna with 78s and Ashton Elledge with a 79.
Oliver Heikkinen shot 77, while Egan Sturos and Nick Salvatore shot 79s for Howell.
Baseball
Hartland 3, Brighton 2 (8)
Aidan Heidt’s single to right field in the top of the eighth inning gave Hartland the victory.
Michael Bernardi pitched the first seven innings for Hartland, allowing two runs on six hits. Lucas Randall pitched a no-hit scoreless inning of relief to get the victory, fanning two.
Nick Brevik of Brighton pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out six.
Howell 11, Plymouth 1
Danny Hampton was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs for Howell. Nick Myers was 2-for-3, driving in three runs.
Greysen Lesniak pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six.
Pinckney 6-9, Ann Arbor Huron 3-14
Logan Tuttle hit a home run in the first game, while Easton McGlothin and Owen Putnam each drove in two runs in the second for Pinckney.
Girls soccer
Hartland 8, Livonia Stevenson 0
Paige Sundman and Mallory Frantti each scored twice for Hartland in the semifinals of the KLAA tournament. Brooke Anderson, Gracie Kastamo, Claire L’Esperance and Emma Storm had the other goals.
Hartland will play Northville or Salem for the championship on Thursday, May 14. The game will be at Northville if the Mustangs win Tuesday, May 12 against Salem and at Hartland if Salem wins.
