HARBOR SPRINGS — The Harbor Springs Public Schools Board of Education has selected the candidates they are interested in interviewing for the interim superintendent position.
With the help of the Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI), the school board had a list of 13 potential candidates to choose from. The whole group was discussed in closed session during their Monday, Aug. 4 meeting.
The interim superintendent will lead the district for the 2025-26 school year while MLI conducts a full search to find a long-term replacement. The previous superintendent, Brad Plackemeier, resigned from his position in June.
The board came out of closed session with three candidates for interviews — Jeff DiRosa, David Eichberg and Dr. Scott Korpak.
After the board selected the candidates, MLI representative John Scholten shared their backgrounds.
DiRosa is a retired superintendent who previously worked in Mancelona Public Schools, starting in 2008. He retired in 2024. Prior to that, he worked for Alba Public Schools.
Eichberg retired from Berrien Springs Public Schools and is an active participant in other civic organizations. According to the Berrien Springs Bible Church website, Eichberg worked in education for 42 years before his 2023 retirement. He worked as the Berrien Springs Public Schools superintendent for eight years.
Korpak retired as a superintendent from Northview Schools in 2023 after eight years, according to his LinkedIn account. Before his time at Northview, he was the assistant superintendent at Forest Hills Public Schools from 2010-2015. Most recently, he served as the interim superintendent for Zeeland Public Schools. In his cover letter, he wrote that he applied for the Harbor Springs superintendent position 17 years ago.
“I think you’ve got three high-quality people to interview,” Scholten said.
Scholten added that the resumes and cover letters should be made public before the interviews, which are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11.
