Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been arrested and voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Florida after facing an arrest warrant in connection to a February robbery and kidnapping in Tampa, according to the Florida state attorney’s office in Hillsborough County.
In its Wednesday press release, the Florida state attorney’s office announced that Arnold is facing “multiple felony charges which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.”
The press release from the Florida state attorney’s office also said that Arnold “is accused of coordinating and directing the codefendants to lure three men to an apartment where the victims were robbed, beaten, and held at gunpoint.”
According to the release, Arnold initially reported to the Largo Police Department that he had been a victim of theft. The Lions’ cornerback reported more than $200,000 worth of his personal items from an Airbnb that Arnold owned as stolen.
The release states that “there is no evidence to prove the victims were involved in the theft” and that its investigation “revealed that Arnold orchestrated the kidnapping and robbery just hours after reporting the missing items to the Largo Police Department.”
Arnold and four codefendants are currently in jail without bond, according to the release. Two other co-defendants “pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime” in a June 24 hearing. One of those who pleaded guilty was sentenced to four years in prison followed by six years of probation; the other “entered an open plea with the court, and sentencing will be set off to a later date.”
As part of the plea agreements, they are required to testify truthfully in any future proceedings related to this case.
“We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold,” a spokesperson for the Lions said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports. “We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”
Arnold previously denied any involvement in the case in February. Per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Arnold’s legal representation said in a statement on Wednesday, “there is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations.”
Arnold was a first-round pick by the Lions in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 195-pound corner has played in 24 games over his first two NFL seasons, totaling 91 tackles, 18 passes defended, one interception and one fumble recovery.
Arnold underwent season-ending shoulder surgery last year and was set to battle for one of the Lions’ starting cornerback positions this training camp.
