HARBOR SPRINGS — A new spot has opened up on the Harbor Springs Public Schools Board of Education.
During their Tuesday, July 22 meeting, the board accepted Brad Backus’ resignation. This means that the board will need to fill the seat for a partial term.
The board is accepting applications for the position with an Aug. 1 deadline. The board will interview candidates during their Aug. 4 meeting.
According to the job posting, the position would be effective immediately, and run through Dec. 31, 2026. A trustee’s responsibilities include establishing policy for the district, adopting the budget and aligning funding priorities with district goals, determining school facility needs and responding to community ideas and needs.
The selected trustee should be prepared to attend, and prepare for, two board meetings a month, participate in school assignments, participate in liaison assignments and join in ceremonial duties, including commencements and honors events.
People interested in applying should answer whether or not they’re a U.S. citizen, whether or not they’re a registered voter in the Harbor Springs Public Schools district and explain in 200 words or less their biographical information, including relevant qualifications and skills they could bring to the position. Additionally, applicants are asked to explain in 200 words or less why they are interested in serving as a trustee on the board.
