Logan Tollison started to realize the possibilities that existed for him in wrestling during a strong sophomore season in 2024.
That’s when Tollison finished second in the 215-pound Division 1 state tournament, dropping a close match to highly regarded Connor Bercume from Detroit Catholic Central in the title match. He then added to that success in the ensuing spring and summer, placing second at Central Regionals and performing well at the acclaimed U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota.
That was when Tollison started to hear from Michigan State. And Tollison hasn’t slowed down, going on to win the state championship in the heavyweight division last winter.
On Monday, Nov. 17, Tollison achieved one of his wrestling dreams, signing with MSU.
“They showed a lot of interest in me,” Tollison said. “They believe in me. They showed up to my tournaments. They are always supporting me. I really liked the environment. Great coaches, great team. I liked the recovery stuff and it’s close to home. It’s really close to home and I liked that, too.”
Tollison hopes to continue to build on his craft as a Spartan. But until then his focus is on putting together a strong ending to his high school career with official practices beginning for his senior season at Grand Ledge on Nov. 17. And this winter will have a different feel as Tollison have a target as a defending state champion.
Of course he has a desire to repeat that title, but Tollison is pushing for more.
“My goal is I’m past state champ now,” he said. “I want to be one of the top guys in the country. That’s my goal.”
