The furniture seller said the move will help it focus on its remaining locations, including its showroom in Novi and its three-day clearance center and warehouse in Farmington Hills, while continuing to serve customers.

“Gorman’s has always been a destination business and has built a reputation around quality, style, design expertise and long-term relationships,” Jonathan Moray, CEO of Gorman’s Home Furnishings & Interior Design, said in a statement. “We believe it is important to maintain a physical showroom where customers can experience quality furnishings, discover new ideas and work directly with talented interior designers. By concentrating our operation around Novi and Farmington Hills, we can continue serving customers throughout metro Detroit and Michigan while building a more focused foundation for the future.”

The closures impact Gorman’s showrooms at 1465 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy and at 29145 Telegraph Road in Southfield. The last day of regular business for those locations will be Aug. 3, followed by a temporary closure for inventory tagging and sale preparation. A private sale for invited past customers will take place Aug. 13-14, with a public store-closing sale beginning Saturday, Aug. 15. Discounts are expected to reach up to 80% off, officials said.

The remaining locations are Gorman’s Furniture at 27800 Novi Road in Novi and Gorman’s Three-Day Clearance Center and warehouse at 23231 Industrial Park Drive, Suite A in Farmington Hills.

Gorman’s said it will continue to fulfill existing orders, complete scheduled deliveries and support active interior design projects. Customers do not need to take any action unless the company contacts them, Gorman’s said.

As for its workforce, Gorman’s said it hopes to “retain key employees, maintain current compensation where possible and potentially expand the remaining operation.” The company said it will communicate staffing decisions and transition details directly with employees.
