Girls soccer: See Greater Lansing's all-state selections

The DeWitt girls soccer team made a return to the Division 2 semifinals while making the deepest run among Greater Lansing teams in the state tournament.

The latest strong spring for the Panthers, who claimed CAAC Gold Cup and Division 2 district and regional titles, has led to a big presence on the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state squad.

DeWitt had seven players honored, which includes freshman forward Madison McCarthy earning first team all-state honors in Division 2 and senior goalkeeper Madison McDonald and junior defender Carly Dennis earning second team accolades. Senior midfielder Nicole O’Neal was a third team performer, while Sailor Stevens, Cate Piesko and Maddy Takagishi were honorable mention selections.

Grand Ledge, Mason, Haslett, St. Johns, Williamston, Eaton Rapids Lansing Catholic, Ovid-Elsie, Laingsburg, Bath, Dansville, Lansing Christian and Potterville were the other programs to have players named all-state.

Grand Ledge had junior midfielder Samantha Powers named honorable mention all-state in Division 1.

Haslett had two players recognized with Alex Sharrow being named to the Division 2 second team and Makayla Muhammad being named honorable mention all-state.

Mason also had two players honored with Lexi Haynie named third team all-state in Division 2 and McKenzie Lockwood earning honorable mention accolades.

St. Johns Madison Hendy was the other area all-state selection in Division 2, earning honorable mention accolades.

Eaton Rapids forward Kennedie Crow led the area all-state selections in Division 3 as he was named to the first team. Eaton Rapids junior Kylie Alvarez was named honorable mention all-state.

Williamston had three players named all-state, led by Elly Gorsline making the second team and goalkeeper Ava Palmatier and defender Athena Hart being selected honorable mention.

The other area players honored in Division 3 were Ovid-Elsie midfielder Dannika Campbell and Lansing Catholic’s Isabelle Currie, who were honorable mention selections.  

Bath midfielder Aubri Torok and Lansing Christian forward Lydia Brogan led the Division 4 selections in the area by being named second team all-state, while Laingsburg’s Payge Woodworth was a third team selection.

Honorable mention all-state performers from the area in Division 4 were Bath defender Emily Schneider and forward Elektra Kotch, Dansville midfielder Bella Baker, Laingsburg forward Kierra Rusz, Leslie midfielder Erin Lubahn and Potterville goalkeeper Mallory Fee.
