DUNDEE, MI — Big dogs. Small dogs. Long or short haired dogs. Gabbie White falls in love with every dog she meets.
“Being able to make a difference and see that I am helping is what I enjoy most about my job,” White said.
She owns and operates Gabbie’s Bath & Brush Dog Grooming, a business started in March.
White travels to clients’ homes offering full grooming services with add-on services like nail clipping, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and paw pads, cleaning hair on the bottoms of feet.
Other services, along with pricing, are posted online and on Facebook. Prices start at $50 and vary based on dog size and behavior. Appointments can be made online.
The 23-year-old says she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after graduating from Monroe High School in 2020.
“I knew I wanted to do something with animals but didn’t think I was cut out to be a vet. The thought of putting a dog down breaks my heart,” she said. “I started working at a dog grooming shop and it was some of the best times of my life. I fell in love with every dog.”
White says she felt confident she could build on that bond by starting her own grooming business.
She tends to work with dog breeds known for being tidy and low maintenance. These dogs have short coats with minimal shedding but welcomes the opportunity to work with large canines.
While building her business, White has her sights set on adding a mobile grooming van.
“Being able to see a dog and be around a dog is what I truly love,” she said. “I appreciate having my own dogs.”
White shares her home with Finneas, a 5-year-old mini Golden Doodle and 1-year-old Lou, a lab-boxer mixed breed.
“Being able to be around other people’s dogs and create a bond with them and let them know they are safe is what matters,” White added. “I really want to make a difference in their lives and be someone they can trust.”
