NORTHERN MICHIGAN — The weather is getting warmer, and Northern Michigan communities have plenty of fun scheduled for this weekend.
Here’s what we recommend:

Enjoy live music
Grammy-nominated duo Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus will be at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts on Friday, May 9 as part of Black Violin’s Full Circle Tour.
The duo’s music is described as “merging classical depth with hip-hop’s pulse,” and the Black Violin Foundation works to empower youth by providing access to quality music programs that encourage creativity.
Doors open for the concert at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at greatlakescfa.org/events/detail/black-violin.
Celebrate Arbor Day in Petoskey
In celebration of Arbor Day, the Petoskey Area Garden Club will be giving away Michigan native white pine trees.
The giveaway will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at the gazebo in Pennsylvania Park.
A representative from the Emmet County Conservation District will be present for any questions about care and maintenance of the trees.
Swap your spring wardrobe
If you’re tired of your boring wardrobe or just looking for a little spring refresh, head over to Snowbelt Brewery in Gaylord on Saturday, May 10 for a clothing swap.
The swap will take place from 12-5 p.m. at the brewery, 132 W. Main St. During the swap, people can thrift through the available free clothing, which was all donated earlier in the week. Snowbelt will also be having food and drink specials and there will be a raffle.
All remaining clothes after the swap will be donated to the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan.
Boozy Book Fair in Charlevoix
Castle Farms in Charlevoix is hosting its second Boozy Book Fair, with over 70 vendors set to showcase books, literary-themed items and more.
The fair takes place from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. If you want to take part in the book swap, check in your books from 1-2 p.m., and the swapping will take place from 2-4 p.m. There will be food, live music from the Crazy Socks Swing Jazz Band and more.
Admission to the fair is free.

Mother’s Day fun
Whether your mom like music, flowers, a nice cup of tea or something else, there’s an event for her in Northern Michigan for Mother’s Day.
For an outdoor adventure, join conservation specialist Amy Lipson for a relaxing walk through Chaboiganing Nature Preserve, 10251 Brutus Road, from 12-1:30 p.m on Sunday, May 11. The Mother’s Day Spring Flora Walk is intended to be a slow walk, where participants can take in everything that spring has to offer.
For musical fun, the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is hosting The Hummel Trio for a free concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 11 at the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs. The concert is part of the orchestra’s Sunday Series, which brings small orchestra ensembles to neighborhood venues across Charlevoix and Emmet counties.
The Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Agency will be hosting a Mother’s Day Tea at noon on Friday, May 9 at 524 Ashmun St. in Sault Ste. Marie. The afternoon will include piano music by Natalie LaCoursiere, tea and lunch. There is a suggested donation of $3 for seniors and $6 for everyone else.
