Former Michigan State hockey star Shawn Horcoff has been given the opportunity to run the day to day operations for the Detroit Red Wings in the foreseeable future.
Following the departure of Steve Yzerman as GM of the organization, Horcoff, who previously served as an assistant GM and GM of the Grand Rapids Griffins, will oversee the organization until Chris Illitch makes his next hire, according to a report from Detroit Free Press reporter Helene St. James. Horcoff is handling day-to-day responsibilities, though that does not extend to making trades.
Horcoff, a standout from 1996-2000 in East Lansing, he went on to play 15 seasons in the NHL before moving on to a career in the front office. He will surely get an interview for the main job, but for now, he will look to lead the Red Wings into the 2026-27 season on an interim basis.
