Ferndale is flush with bars, restaurants, coffee shops, parks, unique retail destinations and grocery stores, but until now, the Oakland County suburb had no weekly farmers market.
That’s changing Saturday with the launch of the Ferndale Farmstand. Powered by CornWineOil Farms, a network of Detroit-based urban farms, the weekly market will be set up outside of Tall Trees Cafe, 817 Livernois, each Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., or until produce is sold out.
“The lack of a farmers market in Ferndale is pretty shocking to me, and Livernois is a great location for one,” Tall Trees owner Michael Finsilver told The Detroit News. “It’s accessible to the neighborhood right around here and across Eight Mile.”
Finsilver says the Ferndale Farmstand will sell fresh and seasonal produce grown in Detroit by local farmers Candi and Mark Fentress. If there’s enough demand, they will add more food from other area farms.
“We’re hoping to create more access to locally grown produce and to close the gap between local farmers and customers, which is really what it’s all about for me,” he said.
Tall Trees Cafe, which was one of The Detroit News’ best new restaurants of 2025, is also expanding its hours to be open later during the week and earlier on Saturdays. Find it open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wed.-Fri. and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sat. at 817 Livernois in Ferndale.

Last month, Finsilver announced he and Carlos Parisi — a social media personality and food entrepreneur — are teaming up to open a sandwich counter at Foley’s Market in downtown Lexington. It should be up and running at 7252 Huron Ave. in time for summer beach days and day trips to the Thumb area.
