East Lansing girls tennis places seventh at Division 2 finals

Led by a run to the state semifinals by its top double team, the East Lansing girls tennis team finished seventh at the Division 2 state tournament at Midland on Thursday, June 4.

Ani Meghea and Evie Laxton reached the semifinals at No. 1 doubles for East Lansing, which finished with 13 points to finish tied with Mattawan for seventh.

Meghea and Laxton ended the season with a 22-1 record.

East Lansing had Sima Bezuglova (No. 4 singles), Stella Alfredson and Zoe Van Dorn (No. 2 doubles), Grace Knake and Addy Louagie (No. 3 doubles) and Carmen Rojewski and Allison Drzal (No. 4 doubles) each advanced to the state quarterfinals.

DIVISION 1

Okemos had eight points while finishing 12th at the state finals in Midland.

The Wolves were led by their top two singles flights in Isabella Portnoy and Isabelle Hult. Hult finished as the state runner-up at No. 2 singles, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Utica Eisenhower’s Morgan Emerick in the title match, Portnoy reached the state semifinals at No. 1 singles.
