There was no tarp on the field and workers were actually watering the infield when it was announced.

Roughly 30 minutes after the delay was announced, a new start time was set: 8:35 p.m. ET. The Tigers and Cubs began their game following a 30-minute delay.

Monday’s game was the Tigers’ fourth in four days after the All-Star Game, part of a 13-in-13-days stretch to open the second half. The Tigers’ next day off isn’t until July 30.

After Monday’s series opener, the Tigers and Cubs play two more games at Wrigley – both set for 8:05 p.m. starts on Tuesday and Wednesday. The series finale will be nationally televised on ESPN.
