ST. JOHNS — Several thousand Consumers Energy customers will lose power overnight Oct. 1 as the utility upgrades substation equipment.
The work is expected to begin at 1 a.m. Oct. 1 and continue until 6 a.m. and will impact about 2,680 homes in northeast Clinton County, Consumers said in a statement.
The upgrade is intended to to reduce the potential for power outages in the region.
Customers impacted include homes and businesses in the Ovid and Shepardsville areas, largely those south of W. Juddville Road, north of W. Hibbard Road, east of S. Krepps Road and west of Ruess Road.
“We understand that losing power is an inconvenience, but we’re confident this work will help reduce the risk for unexpected power outages in the future,” said Steve Herrygers, Consumers Energy’s senior executive director of high voltage distribution. “Consumers Energy appreciates the community’s patience, and it’s our priority to make these upgrades next week as quickly and safely as we can.”
Postcards were mailed to affected customers in the area. If work needs to be rescheduled, the backup timing is 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Customers should call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 if they have questions.
