Coney Pizza returns to Hungry Howie's for one day

After more than 20 years, Hungry Howie’s is bringing back a fan-favorite menu item. On Thursday, July 30, the Coney Pizza will return for one day only at select locations across metro Detroit in honor of National Coney Dog Day.

The pizza costs $9.99.

Jeff Rinke, vice president of marketing and product development at Hungry Howie’s, said the specialty pie has been in high demand ever since its removal from the menu two decades ago. Rinke hopes its return will “stir a lot of conversation.”

The pizza, covered in chili, mustard and onions, plus slices of hot dog on top, is meant to resemble the classic Coney Island-style hot dog that the metro Detroit area is known for.

“People still ask me every year, ‘when are you going to bring back the Coney Pizza?’” Rinke said. “Coneys are just revered here in the Detroit area and it tastes just like a coney [dog].”

The Coney Pizza is just the start. This event marks the beginning of the nationwide Hungry Howie’s Flavor Experience platform event set on bringing back “limited-time specials and fan-favorite comebacks,” according to a Hungry Howie’s press release.

“We’re always trying to innovate and run things that are unique and interesting,” Rinke said.

Where to find the Coney Pizza
