Here's the midterm races we're watching near Holland this fall

This article is intended to be a resource for registered voters in Ottawa County and Allegan County for the primary and general elections of 2026, taking place Aug. 4 and Nov. 3. This page will be updated as candidates announce their campaigns, and again following the results of the primary.

In addition to the local races listed below, statewide decisions include governor, secretary of state, attorney general and a seat in the U.S. Senate.

All information is according to official announcements from candidates and county-based election records. Some candidates who previously announced campaigns, but weren’t listed on county or state documents after the filing deadline April 21, have been removed.

U.S. House of Representatives (Two-Year Terms)

Third District 

Region: Partial — Kent County, Ottawa County and Muskegon County, including Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Muskegon, Grandville and Rockford

Incumbent: Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Grand Rapids) 

Filing Deadline: For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: 

Fourth District 

Region: Full — Allegan County and Van Buren County. Partial — Ottawa County (Holland, Zeeland and Hudsonville), Berrien County, Calhoun County, Kalamazoo County.

Incumbent: Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Holland Township) 

Filing Deadline: For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: 

Michigan Senate (Four-Year Terms)

20th District 

Region: Partial — Allegan County, Kent County, Berrien County and Van Buren County, including Saugatuck, Douglas, Fennville, Saugatuck Township and Allegan

Incumbent: Aric Nesbitt (R-Porter Township) 

Filing Deadline: For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: 

Nesbitt is not seeking re-election to the seat, instead launching a campaign for governor.

30th District 

Region: Partial — Ottawa County and Kent County, including Allendale Township, Polkton Township, Tallmadge Township, Wright Township and Coopersville

Incumbent: Mark Huizenga (R-Walker)

31st District 

Region: Partial — Ottawa County and Allegan County, including Holland, Zeeland, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, Holland Township, Zeeland Township, Park Township, Laketown Township, Fillmore Township and Port Sheldon Township

Incumbent: Roger Victory (R-Hudsonville)

Proposals

Ballot proposals are due for the primary election by May 12 and for the general election by Aug. 11.

Jamestown Township voters will see a pair of tax renewals on the ballot in August. The first would renew and restore the fire department operations millage to 1 mill, running 2027-30. The current millage rate is 0.9525 mills after rollbacks under the Headlee Amendment.

The second proposal is a renewal and restoration of the road improvement millage to 1.5 mills, running 2027-30. The current millage rate is 1.4362 after rollbacks under the Headlee Amendment.
