State officials this week confirmed that a worker in Detroit was killed on July 2, the 17th on-the-job fatality in Michigan in 2025.
A concrete mixing truck backed into a 47-year-old laborer, the Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration said in a release, pinning the person between a dumpster and the mixing truck.

The fatality was the first job-related death in July and 17th this year, state officials said. In 2024, three Michigan workers died the entire month of July, and four in 2023.
There were 16 deaths through June this year. In 2024, Michigan saw 12 worker deaths in the first six months of the year while 17 workers died through June 2023.
There were 36 MIOSHA-reported deaths in 2023 and 31 overall in 2024; 2009 saw the lowest number with 24.
