Failed culvert causes water main break in East Jordan

A culvert in East Jordan failed on Thursday, April 16 and caused a water main break, interrupting water service of many residents.

According to the city’s Facebook page, the culvert was located on Shepard Lane. Tri-County Excavating arrived on site Friday morning to assess the damage and start the repair of the damaged water line.

The city’s Department of Public Works anticipated a repair by Friday night. Even when the water main is fixed, the city must receive two clear water samples before it is deemed safe. A Boil Water Advisory is in place until then for affected areas, including Shepard Lane, Peninsula, Lakeview, Orchard, Woodland, Terrace, Hillcrest and Meadow Lane. Grandvue Medical is not affected.

Those in need of water or restrooms can access city hall, open until 5 p.m., or the Emergency Services Facility at 555 Maple St. throughout the evening.
