A Clinton Township man has been arraigned for a March 27 fatal crash into a pedestrian while allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Curtis Eason of Clinton Township was arraigned May 12 for operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony, according to a release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
The 50-year-old was driving westbound on Elizabeth Road approaching Groesbeck Highway when he entered a turn lane prematurely and hit a pedestrian, Michael O’Brien of Mount Clemens, 34, police said.
O’Brien was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital after the crash and was pronounced dead.
Police said Eason was legally intoxicated at the time of the incident.
His attorney, Andres Windham Villafane, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Eason was arraigned at 41B District Court and given a $100,000 cash surety bond and must wear a GPS alcohol tether if released.
He is scheduled for a probable cause conference on May 19 at 8:30 a.m.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones as they mourn this tragic and senseless loss,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement. “If you drink, do not get behind the wheel. As alleged in this case, such a decision can have fatal consequences.”
