Cheboygan's Front Range Lighthouse seeks seasonal keepers

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be a lighthouse keeper, you have a chance to live out that dream at Cheboygan’s Front Range Lighthouse.

Located on the Cheboygan River, just off Main Street, the Front Range Lighthouse was originally constructed in 1880. The lighthouse was designated for sale by the U.S. Coast Guard in 2001 and was purchased in 2004 by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association (GLLKA). The nonprofit organization is dedicated to lighthouse preservation, and the group has performed significant restoration at the site over the years.

Volunteer keepers can stay in the lighthouse for a modest fee. They also open the building to visitors Thursdays through Sundays, assist with grounds maintenance and gift shop sales, and give guided tours.

The GLLKA is currently seeking those interested in signing up as volunteer lighthouse keepers for the summer and fall. You can find more information at GLLKA.org.
