The area’s wrestling community has always been a strong one. And as the prep wrestling season continues to heat up as we head toward the championship portion of the year, it is time once again to vote for the athlete of the week, presented by Glen Oaks Community College!
You guessed it, this week’s athlete of the week nominees are all wrestlers. Several local grapplers are having great seasons on the mats and this past week was a showcase of those talents as well. You can vote for the athlete of the week nominees below and below the poll are the nominees and what they accomplished last week.
Vote as many times as you’d like, for as many wrestlers as you’d like. The polls are open until Thursday at noon-time. Big thanks again to Glen Oaks Community College for sponsoring our athlete of the week polls.
UPDATE: Zak Iobe of Mendon also recorded his 100th career victory on Saturday. He was added to the list.
Jak Monroe, Louis Smith, Carter Hensley and Mackenna Webster — Three Rivers
Three Rivers continues its solid season and had plenty of milestones last week. Louis Smith registered a new Three Rivers school record by recording his 150th career pin. Mackenna Webster and Jak Monroe each logged their 100th career wins by pinfall as well while Carter Hensley earned his 100th career win.
Caleb Harvey and Layne Knisely — Bronson
Caleb Harvey earned his 100th career win for Bronson last week. Layne Knisely set a new school record for the Vikings by earning his 118th career victory by pinfall.
Bear Geibe — Constantine
Bear Geibe continues to be one of the best in the state. He’s piled up a record of 36-0 so far this season and on Saturday, won the Greater Berrien Springs Invitational with a 5-0 record.
David Lane and Hunter Pant — White Pigeon
White Pigeon scored a couple of career milestones on Saturday. David Lane earned his 100th career victory for the Chiefs while Hunter Pant wrestled to his 150th career win.
Zak Iobe — Mendon
Zak Iobe secured his 100th career victory for the Hornets on Saturday in Plainwell. He was initially omitted from the list, but was added immediately upon learning of the milestone.
