Basketball roundup: Okemos, Mason, Lansing Christian girls win openers

GIRLS

OKEMOS 44, OVID-ELSIE 27

ELSIE — Natalia Hawks had 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists and Elizabeth Schafer knocked down three 3-pointers while scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds for the Wolves in a season-opening nonleague win over Ovid-Elsie. Eden Tandoc added six points and 10 rebounds and two blocks for Okemos.

MASON 59, EATON RAPIDS 31

EATON RAPIDS — Zoe Wendt and Josi Lator paced the Bulldogs with 16 points in their season-opening victory over Eaton Rapids. Freshman Delaney Collins had 17 points and four steals to lead the Greyhounds.

LANSING CHRISTIAN 53, JACKSON CHRISTIAN 28

Alyssa Shank led all scorers with 14 points as the Pilgrims opened their season with a nonleague home win over Jackson Christian. Natalie Adams scored 10 points, Lael Ritter finished with eight points and Juliette Tallon chipped in seven points for Lansing Christian.

SARANAC 45, LANSING CATHOLIC 33

LANSING — Lydia Rasmus had 12 points for Saranac in its season-opening nonleague win over the Cougars. Sydney Hanes finished with 22 points for Lansing Catholic, which was playing its first varsity game since a regional final loss in March 2024. JV score: Saranac 53, Lansing Catholic 19

PERRY 49, BYRON 13

BYRON — Ruby Simon, Ava O’Connor and Josie Logghe each finished with 14 points to lead the Ramblers in their nonleague win over Byron. Perry (1-0) took control with a big third quarter where it outscored Byron 18-4.

BATH 41, BEAL CITY 15

BATH — Anna Poppema led the Bees with 15 points and snagged four steals in their season-opening victory over Beal City. Africa Beltran tacked on 13 points and grabbed five steals for Bath.

CENTRAL MONTCALM 52, ITHACA 40

STANTON — Libby Maurer finished with 15 points for the Yellowjackets in a nonleague road defeat to Central Montcalm. Alyssa Polash picked up nine points and Riley Skinner added six points for Ithaca. 

OKEMOS 44, OVID-ELSIE 27

ELSIE — Natalia Hawks tallied 10 points and four steals to help guide the Wolves to a season-opening victory over Ovid-Elsie. Elizabeth Schafer finished with 12 points and six rebounds and Eden Tandoc chipped in six points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for Okemos.

BOYS

OLIVET 59, COLDWATER 54

COLDWATER — Zaiden Bramer knocked down five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 23 points to lead the Eagles in their win over Coldwater. Jack Masters contributed 11 points for Olivet (3-0).

STOCKBRIDGE 69, VANDERCOOK LAKE 26

STOCKBRIDGE — Noah Sandecki notched a double-double with 12 points and a school-record 10 steals to lead the Panthers to a nonleague victory over Vandercook Lake (1-3). Bradley Buddenborg scored a team-high 14 points, Kam Gross tallied 11 points and Jonathan Crow tacked on 10 points for Stockbridge (2-0). JV score: Stockbridge 52, Vandercook Lake 19

PORTLAND 76, BATH 11

PORTLAND — Tej Virk, Carson Simon and Carter White each finished with a team-high 11 points to help lead the Raiders to a nonleague home victory over Bath (1-2). Keyhan Page secured 10 points and Ethan Cassel and Liam Wolfe each chipped in nine points for Portland (2-0).

BRIGHTON 51, MASON 39

BRIGHTON — Greyson Bayer had eight points and eight rebounds and Mason Dowdy had eight points for Mason (2-1) in its nonleague loss to Brighton.
