Authorities probe suspicious package at Selfridge

Police and Selfridge Air National Guard Base officials are investigating a report of a suspicious package left at the facility on Friday.

“We are working with Macomb County Sheriff and Michigan State Police to assess the situation,” base officials said in a statement on Facebook. “We will update information as it becomes available. We appreciate the quick response of our local and state law enforcement partners and help keeping our installation and community safe.”

The base is located east of Interstate 94 between North River Road and M-59 in Harrison Township. It’s home to the 127th Wing, a unit of the Michigan Air National Guard comprised of over 1,400 uniformed airmen.

Macomb County officials said Henry B. Joy Boulevard, which is located near the base and runs east and west, was closed at Executive Drive in Harrison Township due to an investigation.

They also said Irwin Drive south of Henry B. Joy Boulevard in the township is closed.
