57-unit housing project remains in early stages at former Eagles Club

JONESVILLE — Plans to redevelop the former Jonesville Eagles Club into a 57-unit supportive housing community remain in the engineering stage, according to organizers from Key Opportunities — but some work could begin this summer.

Executive Director Julie Boyce said the community at 439 Beck St. would help individuals with disabilities live more independently. The phased project stemmed from the nonprofit’s identification of two major needs among people it serves: access to housing and affordable housing.

The concept would see single-living units designed for two residents. According to Boyce, each resident would have their own private space — including a bedroom and bathroom — along with a shared common area.

An on-site clubhouse would host activities and programming intended to build skills and social connections. Boyce emphasized the project wouldn’t provide around-the-clock care, with residents largely managing their own day-to-day living.

Still, the project would include on-site staff, such as maintenance employees and case managers. Boyce said the development would serve individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including physical, mental health and intellectual.

Key Opportunities expects the project to initially serve residents already connected to the organization, then expand depending on demand and how the development progresses.
