36-year-old Monroe man accused of hit-and-run crash to return to court Aug. 12

MONROE, MI — A 36-year-old Monroe man charged in a hit-and-run crash that left two people in critical condition is due back in court at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 before Judge Michael Brown.

Michael Kennedy II was arraigned on two counts of failing to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death June 24, according to a July 14 release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. He was given a $75,000 cash or surety bond.

“It’s a very unfortunate situation with unintended consequences,” said Kennedy’s lawyer, Timothy Churchill.

The crash was reported in Frenchtown Township at 9:44 p.m. June 21. Two days later, search warrants were served at a residence and an unattached garage in the 5000 block of North Stoney Creek Road.

A blue 2009 Ford Fusion was located in the unattached garage with severe damage, the sheriff’s office said.

According to preliminary investigation, Conny Cosby and Anthony Keister, both 40 and from Monroe, were walking northbound on North Dixie Highway crossing the roadway when they were hit by a northeast blue, four-door, Ford sedan. Cosby came to rest in the center turn lane and Keister came to rest in the northeast lane of travel. Police said the driver fled the scene.

Both Cosby and Keister were transported Corewell Health Trenton Hospital. They both survived their injuries. An update on their condition was not available.
