U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted 133 pounds of cocaine near the Blue Water Bridge on Thursday, June 11, officials announced over the weekend.
The Canada-bound commercial vehicle was seized by federal officials, along with the trailer and cocaine.
The driver, an Indian citizen, faces federal prosecution, CBP officials say.
“Every narcotic interdiction breaks a link in the criminal supply chain,” said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon. “We will not allow our borders to be a conduit for dangerous drugs, and we’ll continue to hold accountable those involved.”
The commercial vehicle, which was bound for Canada, was found with 55 shrink-wrapped bricks of a white powdery substance concealed within two cardboard boxes after an inspection by K9 units and officers.
The cargo was confirmed to be cocaine following testing.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Blue Water Bridge connects the cities of Port Huron, Michigan, and the village of Point Edward and city of Sarnia in Ontario, Canada.
The bridge features two spans, the original span is a three-lane westbound bridge, and the second span is a three-lane eastbound bridge, according to MDOT.
